Title: Introduction to Bioinformatics Softwares at OSC
Presenter: Yuan Zhang, Ohio Supercomputer Center - Springfield
Abstract: The purpose of this tutorial is to give an introduction to the use of bioinformatics softwares currently available at OSC. The tutorial includes three sections, desktop softwares, web applications and command line applications. OSC offers desktop softwares under statewide license to Ohio researchers at no cost. These include Partek Pro, a statistical analysis and visualization package, and Cerf, a package for managing and sharing information in life science research. The web application includes Mascot, BLAST, ClustalW, SmithWaterman, PAUP and others. The command line programs include many open source softwares as well as ones developed at OSC. The categories of the applications include sequence analysis, phylogenetic analysis, protein property prediction, proteomics, and programming libraries for researchers to develop applications of their own. Use of OSC command line applications requires some knowledge of OSC user environment, which will also be discussed.
